Are you looking for a nice day hike close to Charlotte?
Landsford Canal State Park is located just 40 minutes south of Charlotte and offers scenic views of the Catawba river and an opportunity to learn about South Carolina history from the early 1800’s.
The 448-acre State Park is stretched across the banks of the Catawba river and is home to the well-preserved remains of the Landsford canal system that made the river commercially navigable from 1820 to 1835.
There is a, well maintained, 3-mile round trip trail that gives you close up views of the river and the stone locks of the canal system. There are also several sites to picnic and a rustic 1790 log cabin which also serves as the park store.
